Tonight’s Maryland Menhaden Meeting on Draft Addendum V Location Moved

The meeting tonight on Draft Addendum V to Amendment 1 to the Interstate Fishery Management for Atlantic Menhaden has been moved from the Tawes Building to:

The Calvary United Methodist Church
301 Rowe Blvd.
Annapolis, MD

It is in the basement meeting room. The church is located right next to the Tawes DNR Building

The church is encouraging folks who are able, to leave cars in the DNR lot and walk around – they have several events tonight and are trying to control parking.

I would like to see the largest reduction in the harvest which will save menhaden and the bycatch of shad and herring which look similar. This bycatch can not be returned to the water alive and helps explain why Maryland’s shad moratorium since 1980 has not been fruitful.

I have read the ASMFC’s draft document for Menhaden fishing limits and hope the decisions are made to protect the menhaden population to the greatest degree possible. Not only are other aquatic species affected by overfishing, but so are Ospreys and other birds that depend on menhaden as a food source. To have overfishing continue in the future is unreasonable and irresponsible.
