Dead Menhaden off Delaware Cost, On Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City Maryland

Dead menhaden were reported off the Delaware coast and on Rehoboth Beach over the weekend. Now apparently they are showing up off of Ocean City. See:

Inquiries on this fish kill are being handled by our sister agency, the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), by calling 866-633-4686.

Details that have emerged include:

·         Only one species has been identified: Large Atlantic menhaden
·         Estimated number is 100,000
·         The menhaden appear to have been dead about a week
·         Delaware Bay appears to be the origin of the fish kill
·         There are no issues with water quality off the Maryland coast
·         The event appear to be over, and is not persistent
