Omega Protein Spotted Friday Dec 10 2010 Off the Virginia Coast

The person sending in these pictures described the scene as all out massacre of menhaden by several of the Omega Protein fishing fleet who fish out of Reedville, VA. Reedville, VA is the second largest commercial landing port of fish in the US due to the amount of menhaden they harvest from the very small area of the Chesapeake Bay and inshore Atlantic Coast along Virginia. Menhaden are forage fish for striped bass, bluefish, blue fin tuna and many other species of fish that live in the Chesapeake Bay and along the Chesapeake Bay. Menhaden are also a food source for many sea birds. With out menhaden we will lose many fish and bird species.

    Hello,
I am a grad student at the University of Pennsylvania and I am writing an article on the menhaden. I was wondering if I can have permission to use the pictures on your site for my article. Thanks.
